Copying a Case¶
JustWare's Copy Case feature allows you to copy specific case information from an existing case to a new case. A PIP may be, for example, a defendant/client or plaintiff/respondent. Copy Case requires a PIP for each new case and allows you to select which case information you want to copy from the existing case to each new case (i.e. involved people, case events, notes, case attributes, charges, etc.).
-
Open the case containing the information you want to copy to one or more new cases.
-
From the More dropdown. select Copy Case
The Copy Case action is available if there is only one Primary Involved Person (PIP). A PIP may be, for example, a defendant/client or plaintiff/respondent.
-
For each new case, in the Copy Case snap-in, click the + button to add a new record, and then select or type all required (indicated by an asterisk) and relevant data for each available field.
Field
Description
PIP for New Case
Search for the name of the Primary Involved Person (i.e. defendant/client or plaintiff/respondent) for the new case.
PIP Involvement Type
This is the existing case's PIP involvement type in the new case and of the new PIP on all other new cases. If you want the PIP from the existing case to be involved in the new case, select the involvement type that you want them to have on the new case. The PIP for this new case will be involved on all other new cases with this same involvement type. For example, you are copying existing case 1 to new cases 2 and 3. You want PIP A to be involved as a co-defendant in case 2. By selecting "co-defendant" in the PIP Involvement Type field of the new case 2 record, PIP A is involved in Case 2 as a co-defendant, and PIP B is involved in all other new cases (case 3) as a co-defendant. If this field is left blank, the PIP from the existing case will not be involved in the new case, and the PIP from the new case will not be involved in any other new case.
Note: This field is populated by the Master Codes in the ctblInvolveType code table. Only the following Master Codes will appear: 4 - Co-defendant, 2 - Victim when it also has a Code Type of 5 - Non-Agency Specific, and 3 - Witness when it also has a Code Type of 5 - Non-Agency Specific.
