Prerequisites

The code tables below, accessed via the Statute Prerequisites link in the Statutes section of the Admin landing page, should be completed before completing the Statute code table.

Statute Class Code Table

The Statute Class code table further defines your Statute Severity. Classes might include A, B, and C Misdemeanors or 1, 2, and 3 Felonies.

This code table is only referenced in the Statute code table in the Class field.

Creating Statute Class Codes

  1. Open the Admin landing page.
  2. Navigate to Statutes > Statute Prerequisites.

    The Statute Class code table will be displayed in the Statute Class snap-in.

  3. Add a new record.

  4. Select or type all required and relevant data for each available field. Some fields may be required while others are not.

    • Code: Type a brief, unique code used to reference the corresponding item description.
    • Description: Type a description that the user will view in the lists populated by this code table.
    • Notes: Type any related notes in this free-text field.
    • Activation Date: Type or select the date from which the code will be in use.
    • Expiration Date: Type or select the date upon which the code will become inactive.
  5. Save the session.

Statute Category Code Table

The Statute Category code table can be used to search for and organize statutes easily. For example, a statute category could be "Domestic Violence" or "City Ordinance."

This code table is only referenced in the Statute code table in the Category field.

Creating Statute Category Codes

  1. Open the Admin landing page.
  2. Navigate to Statutes > Statute Prerequisites.

    The Statute Category code table will be displayed in the Statute Category snap-in.

  3. Add a new record.

  4. Select or type all required and relevant data for each available field. Some fields may be required while others are not.

    • Code: Type a brief, unique code used to reference the corresponding item description.
    • Description: Type a description that the user will view in the lists populated by this code table.
    • Notes: Type any related notes in this free-text field.
    • Activation Date: Type or select the date from which the code will be in use.
    • Expiration Date: Type or select the date upon which the code will become inactive.
  5. Save the session.

Statute Severity Code Table

The codes in the Statute Severity code table define the severity of the various statutes recorded in the Statute code table. Statute severities might include Infraction, Misdemeanor, Gross Misdemeanor, and Felony.

This code table is only referenced in the Statute code table in the Severity field.

Creating Statute Severity Codes

  1. Open the Admin landing page.
  2. Navigate to Statutes > Statute Prerequisites.

    The Statute Severity code table will be displayed in the Statute Severity snap-in.

  3. Add a new record.

  4. Select or type all required and relevant data for each available field. Some fields may be required while others are not.

    • Code: Type a brief, unique code used to reference the corresponding item description.
    • Description: Type a description that the user will view in the lists populated by this code table.
    • Notes: Type any related notes in this free-text field.
    • Activation Date: Type or select the date from which the code will be in use.
    • Expiration Date: Type or select the date upon which the code will become inactive.
  5. Save the session.

Statute Source Code Table

The Statute Source code table stores all of the legislatures that define your statutes so that you can label each statute with a source. Create codes for your local city, county, state, and national statutes.

This code table is only referenced in the Statute code table in the Source field.

Creating Statute Source Codes

  1. Open the Admin landing page.
  2. Navigate to Statutes > Statute Prerequisites.

    The Statute Source code table will be displayed in the Statute Source snap-in.

  3. Add a new record.

  4. Select or type all required and relevant data for each available field. Some fields may be required while others are not.

    • Code: Type a brief, unique code used to reference the corresponding item description.
    • Description: Type a description that the user will view in the lists populated by this code table.
    • Notes: Type any related notes in this free-text field.
    • Activation Date: Type or select the date from which the code will be in use.
    • Expiration Date: Type or select the date upon which the code will become inactive.
  5. Save the session.

Statute Text Type Code Table

The codes in the Statute Text Type code table define the types of texts displayed for each statute in the Statute Text code table.

For example, you could create a Statute Text Type of "Charging Language" and add any additional charging language to charges documented in JustWare. Or you could add a Statute Text Type of "Jury Language" and record the legislature's jury language, which will then be available for automated documents and reports.

This code table is only referenced in the Statute Text code table in the Statute Text Type field.

Creating Statute Text Type Codes

  1. Open the Admin landing page.
  2. Navigate to Statutes > Statute Prerequisites.

    The Statute Text Type code table will be displayed in the Statute Text Type snap-in.

  3. Add a new record.

  4. Select or type all required and relevant data for each available field. Some fields may be required while others are not.

    • Code: Type a brief, unique code used to reference the corresponding item description.
    • Description: Type a description that the user will view in the lists populated by this code table.
    • Notes: Type any related notes in this free-text field.
    • Activation Date: Type or select the date from which the code will be in use.
    • Expiration Date: Type or select the date upon which the code will become inactive.
  5. Save the session.

Statute Attribute Type Code Table

The codes in the Statute Attribute Type code table define the types of statute attributes used in the database. These attribute types are restricted by a set of MasterCodes.

For example, you could create a Statute Attribute Type of "Minimum Sentence" that uses the "1 - Duration" MasterCode. Or you could create a Statute Attribute Type of "Maximum Fine" that uses the "3 - Money" MasterCode.

This code table is only referenced in the Statute Attributes code table in the Attribute field.

Creating Statute Attribute Type Codes

  1. Open the Admin landing page.
  2. Navigate to Statutes > Statute Prerequisites.

    The Statute Attribute Type code table will be displayed in the Statute Attribute Type snap-in.

  3. Add a new record.

  4. Select or type all required and relevant data for each available field. Some fields may be required while others are not.

    • Code: Type a brief, unique code used to reference the corresponding item description.
    • Description: Type a description that the user will view in the lists populated by this code table.

      Note: For a statute attribute that will have a "2 - Hyperlink" MasterCode, use this field to provide a user-friendly description of the hyperlinked address. For example, type "Web Site for State Statutes."

    • MasterCode: The code selected will determine the type of data that can be entered for the attribute in the Statute Attributes code table.

      • 0 - Boolean
      • 1 - Duration
      • 2 - Hyperlink
      • 3 - Money
      • 4 - Numeric
      • 5 - Text
    • Notes: Type any related notes in this free-text field.
  5. Save the session.
